Meet the Business Owner: Shafali Nanda from Early Bird Cafe in Albury

In the heart of Dean Street, Early Bird Cafe is a beloved spot for locals and visitors alike. It’s not just a cafe, it’s a warm gathering place where stories are shared and friendships are formed.

AlburyCBD: Shafali, tell us a little about yourself. What’s something people might not know?

Shafali: We moved to Albury from the Northern Beaches in Sydney just three weeks after celebrating our daughter’s 13th birthday. The moment we visited Albury, we fell in love with the community here and knew we wanted to make it our home.

AlburyCBD: Tell us about Early Bird Cafe. What’s your why, and what do you love about running your business?

Shafali: This cafe isn’t just a business for us—it feels like home. We’ve lived in Australia for 17 years, and this is the first time we’ve truly experienced what a tight-knit community feels like.

Early Bird Cafe gives us the chance to connect with people, hear their amazing stories, and share in their experiences. Listening to our customers and being part of their lives is what makes this so special for us.

AlburyCBD: What opportunities have you faced in your role?

Shafali: We embrace all the opportunities. For instance, when Albury CBD reached out to host Coffee Chats, it brought everyone together. We love the idea of helping business neighbours check in with each other and strengthen our community bonds.

AlburyCBD: What would you be doing if you weren’t running your business?

Shafali: Honestly, I’d feel a bit lost. I can’t imagine what I’d be doing besides figuring life out in Sydney again. The energy and life that comes with running this cafe is something I can’t picture my life without.

AlburyCBD: What do you enjoy about being in the Albury CBD?

Shafali: The beauty of Albury CBD is breathtaking. The colours throughout the day are stunning, especially in winter when fog blankets the streets and the sun peeks through the clouds. It’s like watching flowers bloom, bringing happy faces and lively energy. The mix of beautiful businesses around us just adds to the charm. It feels perfect here!
