Fun in the summer sun with AlburyCBD

Ahhh…summertime. The days are long, and the sun is shining. We’re spoiled for choice for summer activities in the Albury-Wodonga region. From waterskiing and boating on the weir to a lazy float in the Murray along Nouriel Park or a mountain bike ride or hike in the surrounding hills, there’s plenty to keep us occupied.

Did you know it’s also the perfect time of year to get out and explore everything Albury CBD has to offer? Whether you want to beat the heat, keep the kids entertained or catch up with mates, Albury CBD has something for everyone.

Here’s our round-up of essential AlburyCBD activities and places to visit this summer.

Have a picnic in the park

QEII Square is the go-to picnic spot right in the heart of the CBD. From a new picnic blanket and basket to everything you need to fill up your basket, you can find all your picnic essentials in town. Check out Home Inspirations*, Hello Darling* or Essential Utensil for items like a folding picnic table or insulated picnic basket, picnic blankets and acrylic glassware and water jugs, and plates and cutlery to make your outdoor feast all the more enjoyable.

Grab an iced coffee from Canvas*, a sandwich from Yums, or a salad from Get Tossed* or Greenstreat and roll out your picnic blanket at a shady spot under a tree. The Essential Ingredient*, Clancy’s Food Store*, The Chocolate Labrador*, Modern Boba*, and The Cake Cottage* are all great options for treats and snacks to make your day out something special.

Sunday sessions in the beer garden

Catch-ups with family and friends are what summertime is made for. Luckily, there are plenty of family-friendly beer gardens to choose from in AlburyCBD.

If you haven’t been to Brady’s Railway Hotel since its big renovation in 2022, what are you waiting for? With its leafy green and shaded beer garden (complete with a playground for the kids) and regular live music sessions, it’s definitely worth stopping by for the afternoon.

For a more intimate setting, head to The Woolhouse*. Walk past the bar and down the hallway (if you’re lucky, there will be a dog or two to scratch behind the ears) and make your way to the cosy beer garden with plenty of seating and large tables for your group to gather.

Don’t forget the other great pubs in town, like The Bended Elbow, Sodens and Beer Deluxe Albury – each with outdoor seating, perfect for unwinding on a Sunday afternoon.

Spend some time in the great outdoors

Cricket, hiking, mountain biking, swimming, camping and four-wheel driving – there’s no shortage of outdoor activities around Albury-Wodonga.

And, when it’s time to update your equipment or try something new, our AlburyCBD retailers have you covered. For the latest high-performance footwear and sporting gear to clothing to keep you cool and the mozzies at bay, check out Sportspower, INTERSPORT, The Athlete’s Foot and Kathmandu.

Comet Cycles can get your mountain or road bike into tip-top shape, and Adventure Gear Albury and Aussie Disposals have all your camping and adventure needs sorted.

If it’s too hot for sports outside, head to Big Swing Golf* for a virtual round instead.

Beat the heat

When you need to get out of the sun and cool down, it’s time to head indoors. Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA) is open daily. It’s free to enter and wander around the contemporary photography, painting, sculpture and digital art collections by local and national artists. On your way out, stop by the MAMA Store* to pick up a unique gift for yourself or a friend. The Library Museum is also free to enter and explore – both MAMA and the Library Museum have new exhibitions all the time, so head to their websites to see what’s current.

What’s better than kicking back and relaxing in front of a giant movie screen with a bucket of popcorn in the air conditioning? Not much, which is why taking in the latest movie release at Regent Cinemas* should be on your summertime activity list. While you’re there, make some time for a few rounds of air hockey at Intencity.

Before you head home, pick up a game from Good Games Albury* to keep the fun going, and grab a tub of ice cream or sorbet from Monumental.

Why not finish your day with a twilight stroll down Dean Street or through QEII Square under the twinkle of fairy lights? Whatever your idea of fun in the summer sun is, you’ll find what you need to make it happen in AlburyCBD.
