Meet the Business Owner: Desi Georgiou from Fashion Fingers in Albury

AlburyCBD: Desi, tell us a little about yourself. What’s something people might not know?

Desi: I’m a mum to two teenage girls and married to a born-and-bred local. I first moved to this region as a child after living in Papua New Guinea, where my dad was in the Navy. I went to school in Wodonga, and in my twenties, I made the move to Albury.

AlburyCBD: Tell us about Fashion Fingers. What’s your why, and what do you love about running your business?

Desi: Fashion Fingers actually began by total accident and it’s turning 20 this September! I was working full-time as an account manager at 104.9 and doing nails for clients at night. Eventually, it was too much to juggle, so I took the plunge and opened the salon.

Over the years, I expanded my studies and services, and slowly grew Fashion Fingers into what it is today. We simply love making people feel as good as they look. That’s really what it comes down to. The thing I love most is being able to give my team the space to help others feel beautiful every day.

AlburyCBD: What challenges have you faced in your role?

Desi: The biggest challenge in 20 years was definitely the major building developments happening right at our doorstep for almost two years, plus the lockdowns. Both times, we just had to pivot and make things work.

AlburyCBD: What would you be doing if you weren’t running your business?

Desi: If I wasn’t running the salon, I’d most likely be a nurse!

AlburyCBD: What do you enjoy about being in the Albury CBD?

Desi: Being in the CBD means we get to work alongside other local business owners and our clients have easy access to us.
