Meet the Partnership Manager: Sam Bulowski from Murray Conservatorium

In the heart of Albury, the Murray Conservatorium stands out as a key player in promoting music education and bettering the community. It’s a place where aspiring musicians and seasoned performers come together to explore their musical journey.

AlburyCBD: Sam, tell us a little about your team. What’s something people might not know?

Sam: We’re lifelong musicians with a deep passion for arts education and community engagement. Something people might not know is that some of us play less common instruments, and many of us still perform in local ensembles.

Our paths into music weren’t all the same. Some of us started in other fields like science or engineering, but were ultimately drawn to the creative and collaborative world of music.

AlburyCBD: Tell us about Murray Conservatorium. What’s your why, and what do you love about running your role?

Sam: Murray Conservatorium is dedicated to providing high-quality music education across the region, helping people of all ages and backgrounds explore their musical potential. Our “why” is rooted in the belief that regional communities deserve the same access to the arts as anywhere else.

We love the variety in our roles from developing innovative programs to working with students, staff, and the wider community. It’s incredibly rewarding to see people grow both musically and personally through what we offer.

AlburyCBD: What challenges have you faced in your role?

Sam: One of the biggest challenges we’ve faced was adapting to remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic while keeping students engaged and connected. Like many regional arts organisations, we also navigate challenges around funding and advocacy.

Balancing tradition with innovation is always on our minds as we’re constantly updating our programs to stay relevant, while honouring the classical roots that shape our foundation.

AlburyCBD: What would you be doing if you weren’t running Murray Conservatorium?

Sam: If we weren’t running Murray Conservatorium, we’d still be involved in the creative arts, likely teaching, performing, or working in arts advocacy. Some of us have a passion for creative business or running community-focused arts spaces, while others are drawn to hands-on work like instrument restoration.

Whatever the path, it would definitely involve creativity, collaboration, and a strong connection to community.

AlburyCBD: What do you enjoy about being in the Albury CBD?

Sam: We love the energy and vibrancy of Albury’s CBD. It’s a place where heritage and creativity meet with beautiful buildings, local cafes, and a strong sense of community. Being based in the heart of the city means we’re close to cultural events, other arts organisations, and the people we serve.

It’s a place that inspires collaboration and fosters the growth of the arts in the region.
