Dymocks Albury

Dymocks is a beloved Australian brand, with the company’s history dating back to 1879. Dymocks Albury, owned by Heather and Andrew Cirovic, is more than just a place to buy books; it’s a hub for the community. The husband and wife team brings their unique expertise in education and finance, and the store is driven by a shared passion for literature and a commitment to personalised customer service.

Heather’s background in teacher librarianship and Andrew’s experience in finance made the Dymocks franchise an ideal venture, allowing them to combine their skills and love for books.

Heather says customers love the warm, welcoming atmosphere to browse and hold books before making a purchase. “So many come in and say they love to be able to hold the book and read the blurb. They also appreciate the assistance that can be offered in making a selection for purchase. We endeavour to make each customer feel important and to assist them to find the book they are seeking.”

The Dymocks Albury team takes pride in making each customer feel valued, offering tailored recommendations to help them find the perfect book. The store frequently hosts author talks and book signings to help foster a love of reading within the community and connect readers with their favourite authors.

Despite the challenges of taking over the business just two months before the onset of COVID-19, Heather and Andrew have persevered, continually working to maintain and increase their stock levels.

Whether you’re a history buff eager to explore the works of Australian authors like Grantlee Kieza or just someone who loves to lose themselves in a good book, Dymocks Albury is here to help you find your next great read.

Booktique

Tucked away in AMP Lane, Booktique is the newest spot for book lovers in Albury. “We love having a business in the Albury CBD,” co-owner Michelle Delle Vergin shares, “and while our shop is a bit off the main track, we’re gradually becoming known in town.”

The team at Booktique is passionate about reading, with each staff member bringing their love for different genres to the shelves. This diversity is reflected in their selection, which includes everything from popular TikTok-influenced genres like Romantasy and psychological thrillers to niche titles focusing on knifemaking and blacksmithing.

The staff takes pride in their ability to solve problems, whether it’s finding the perfect gift or helping someone rediscover their love of reading. “Sometimes I describe my occupation as a ‘problem-solver’ rather than a bookseller,” Michelle says, highlighting the personal connection they strive to make with each customer and the joy of putting the right book in the hands of a book lover.

Booktique also fosters a sense of community through its monthly in-store book group, BookMarks.

Customers love Booktique’s bright and positive energy, large range of books available and quick turnaround times on special orders. Booktique champions first-time authors from Australia and around the world, contributing to the discovery of tomorrow’s best-sellers.

Books on Dean

For over 22 years, Books on Dean has been a mainstay in the Albury literary community. Owned and operated by Charles Stitz, the store is more than just a second-hand bookstore; it’s a destination for book lovers of all kinds. “We’ve been in the same spot for all these years. Our collection hasn’t changed drastically over time, but we’ve always focused on quality, offering both classic and niche titles.”

Books on Dean is known for its diverse range of second-hand and antiquarian books, specialising in unique genres like military history, hunting, archery, and natural history.

The store’s collection is carefully curated, with stock coming from online auctions and local sellers who bring in their books, ensuring that the shelves are always filled with interesting and hard-to-find books

The clientele at Books on Dean is as varied as the books themselves. “Anyone and everyone,” Charles says, describing the typical customer. “We have a lot of returning business from travellers, especially those driving between Sydney and Melbourne. Many people make it a point to stop in whenever they’re passing through.”

Whether you’re a collector searching for a rare find or simply a reader looking to explore new genres, Books on Dean offers a unique experience. With its rich history and diverse collection, the store invites both locals and travellers to discover the joy of a good book.
